From Substack to Coffee Table Book
January has been a month of whiplash. The kind where it feels like a whole year has already passed, even though the calendar insists we’re still at the beginning of 2026. There have been ups, there have been downs, and plenty of moments in between where we’ve just had to keep our heads up and remind ourselves why we started Coffee Brain in the first place.
On the product side, things have been quieter on the outside but very busy behind the scenes. We’ve been fine-tuning the app for clarity - simplifying flows, tightening language, and, most importantly, working toward more accurate and usable pricing insights. The goal has always been the same: to help growers and buyers make better decisions with less noise and more confidence. That kind of work isn’t flashy, but it’s foundational, and it’s where a lot of our energy has gone this month.
At the same time, this phase has been less about building alone and more about building together. A big focus right now is networking and forming partnerships with other coffee organizations - research bodies, grower groups, startups, and people who genuinely care about making the coffee ecosystem more transparent and fair. These conversations are slow, sometimes messy, but necessary. Coffee doesn’t move forward in silos, and neither can we.
Internally, we’re also restructuring a bit and opening ourselves up to new contributors, especially on the technical side. Coffee Brain has always sat at the intersection of data, agriculture, and lived experience, and we’re realizing that bringing in more technical voices will help us sharpen what we’re building and how fast we can move. (That means, we are open to intro’s - diamadaiah@gmail.com)
And then, one of the real highs of this early year: Coffee Brain was featured in a coffee table book published as part of the centenary celebrations of India’s coffee research ecosystem - Coffee Board. Seeing our story documented alongside other coffee-based startups and enterprises was quietly surreal. What started as a Substack, a lot of late-night conversations, and a deeply personal problem rooted in Coorg’s coffee fields is now part of a larger, historical narrative. It’s grounding, and it’s motivating in a way that’s hard to put into words.
So yes, January has been a lot. But moments like these remind us that even during the uncertain, in-between phases, something meaningful is taking shape. We’re still learning, still adjusting, still asking hard questions and we’re grateful to everyone who’s been following along, reading, questioning, and supporting Coffee Brain as it evolves.
More soon. Always.
Cheers,
Dia ☕️🧠
